Creamy Steel-Cut Oatmeal

Ingredients

  • steel-cut oats1 cup
  • water3 cups
  • whole milk1 cup
  • kosher salt1/2 tsp
  • light brown sugar3 tbsp
  • ground cinnamon1/2 tsp
  • unsalted butter1 tbsp
  • heavy cream1/4 cup, for serving

Steps

  1. Toast the oats.

    Toast the oats in a dry saucepan over medium heat, stirring, until fragrant and lightly golden, about 3 minutes.

  2. Add liquids and bring to boil.

    Add water, milk, and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a low simmer.

  3. Simmer oats until tender.

    Cook uncovered, stirring every few minutes, until the oats are tender and creamy, about 25 minutes.

  4. Add sugar, cinnamon, and butter.

    Stir in brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter. Spoon into bowls and finish with a swirl of cream.
